Front Cover Draft

This was my initial front cover draft. As can be seen here, I did not finish this draft because I quickly decided that the colours- in particular the white background- did not reflect the hard rock genre ideology of being dark but bold. The colour of the sell-line font does not work well with the background so I did not continue with that due to being undecided on how to amend this issue, and I also felt that white font of the headline gave almost a delicacy to the page- something definitely not suitable in a hard rock magazine. After deciding that this design was a dead end so to speak, I came up with the darker style that can be seen in my final product.

Front Cover Photography

These are some of the images I took during my front cover photo shoot. I have chosen these as my final 6 options because I feel that these are the images that best show the mise-en-scene of the hard rock genre, they convey the house style of my magazine well, and they are also of a good quality. In addition to this, all of these images use some use of shadow across the face of the model, so by editing the images I can create a chiarascuro effect to capture the audience more.

A problem I had whilst taking these images because they saved as an .ARW file rather than a JPEG, meaning I was unable to edit the images on my laptop but the Macbooks in school did not support the software needed to convert them. I resolved this problem by opening the images I would use in photoshop, and then saving the "edited" image as a jpeg.
